Blood Bowl is a fantasy football game based on American Football and the board game of the same name from Games Workshop. The game is a mix of sports, strategy and sheer brutality, and to be honest it isn’t half bad.

The aim of Blood Bowl is to lead your team to glory and to compete in the Blood Bowl Cup. Your team can be created from the 8 playable races in the game, Humans, Orcs, Wood Elves, Dwarfs, Skaven, Lizardmen, Chaos or Goblins. Blood Bowl can also be played in two ways, turn-based or real-time and I definitely recommend the latter.

You should definitely start off this game by playing the three tutorials that are available to you. These tutorials teach you the basics of the game and also teach you how to play the game in different modes such as turn-based and real-time. From here you  then have an array of options such as a one off game, your career with your own personalised custom team and also online play.
The career is where I started, here I had to build a new team from scratch, I was able to choose my players race, team name, colours, badge and then of course pick my team itself. From here it was onto the games and I decided to mix it up here and play my games in real-time as I found that to be a lot more fun. The first thing I noticed is the brutality of this game, before I knew players were fighting all over the pitch, players were dieing, getting sent off for sticking the cleats in and it was all a joy to take part in.

The games themselves have an array of options. You can sort your players formations, roles and tactics, you can bribe the ref if you wish, heck you can even cast spells on the other team. And is all very enjoyable, fun and easy to do Outside of the game you can control more or less all parts of the team, from the roster, hiring staff and the training before match day.. After a few games you have basically played the meat and bones of the game. Its all about the match day and the violence and to be fair it does these two things really well.
The game isn’t graphically the best in the world, but remember this is based on a board game and it does have that feel to it. The game isn’t the biggest, it doesn’t overload you with content, but as I have said it is based on a board game and stays true to its roots. A very enjoyable game and if you are a fan of the Warhammer or the Blood Bowl game by Games Workshop then this is a must have, if you’re a fan of American Football and want to play something with a little twist then again this is a must have.

7/10 from me.
